In this video, I’m woodturning a large walnut platter, focusing on clean cuts, simple shaping, and letting the natural character of the walnut take centre stage.
The platter was turned on my Record Power Coronet Herald wood lathe, using carbide woodturning tools from Easy Wood Tools for steady, controlled cuts.
After turning, I sanded up to 240 grit, then applied Yorkshire Grit abrasive paste to refine the surface. To finish, I added gold embellishing wax to highlight the grain, followed by microcrystalline wax for a soft, durable sheen.
This is a relaxed, process-led turning video — no rush, just time on the lathe and watching the platter come together.
