My experiences to date with Plum are horrible. No other species is as prone to cracking as the Plum I turned so far. But that was Plum which I brought from Germany. We have a single Plum tree in the garden, a Wild Plum and it was overdue for pruning. Because of that we didn't get any fruit from it last year. So this winter we did what had to be done and this action yielded an extraordinary amount of wood, with quite a few pieces of decent size. As a woodturner I simply cannot ignore that so I decided to give it another try. My hopes aren't very high but you never know. If this experiment works out OK I have a few more big pieces saved in plastic bags which I can also turn. If things go extremely well there is still more to take from the firewood pile.
For now I just have to wait patiently but at least it was great fun to turn a juicy chunk of green wood.
