Casting the Inlay for a Cigar Ashtray @emgiwoodworks

Recently I got another request to make a Cigar Ashtray and of course I wanted to document the process on YouTube. This is the casting part of the project and since I'm expecting to do more of these I decided to finally make a proper mold for the metal inlay that goes into them. You can use the inlay to put out your cigar.
Now I can just grab the mold and cast another one. However, one isn't really worth the effort of warming up the furnace so I will generally make several at a time; in this case I made two of them.

$Woodturning - Finishing the Punky Poplar Bowl Special thanks to everyone who commented and suggested ways to finish this bowl. One of the things I will certainly try is using wood hardener on this wood but I need to get that first. When I first turned this wood, it came directly from the chainsawmill. After putting it indoors on a shelve for a few weeks the wood had lost most of its moisture which reduced the tearout quite a bit. Of course it was still far from perfect but this really was an experiment with low expectations. Since there wasnt much lost on this one I figured it was also a good candidate to test my idea of using an ink (ecoline) to color this. The bosslady picked the color and although she has a better eye for it than me, I think the color didnt quite come out the way we hoped, it is really very GREEN. Still, as far as the application of the ink goes, it certainly was a success and on better quality wood it will even be possible to achieve the embellishing effect that I was after. And at least for Dutch viewers (bought the stuff from Action) that will be at a fraction of the cost of iridiscent paint normally used for this. In the end I spent far more time on this experiment than I had planned but I learned a few things while I was at it and the Bosslady ordered two more in different colors. All good!
