A plunger for mashing berries! I don't know it just doesn't sound as good!
This is Arbutus which elsewhere is called Medrona and as cool as it looks I will be turning another one as this one has cracks happening on the lower section. It probably won't go anywhere but it would allow for juice to get in and cause health issues... It'll be a piece of cake now that I have done one!
Because Arbutus is a protected tree here on Vancouver Island it is not common to find larger pieces.... I've mostly worked on branches up to about 6"dia. Strange... I guess it is because the wood is green that it is white! Green Arbutus turns like butter... this is considerably harder! But it does have a beautiful grain pattern in it. It also polishes very well... as it was to be used with food I didn't use anything other than sandpaper on this! I was pleased!
