This was an interesting project!
I had done my spillikans a year or so ago and that one small but it was spindle work... This creates a much larger problem... In that you have to be able to hang on to it somehow! But now that I've turned them I wonder how much I will have to worry about them warping?! I see that the fig splash I turned for the tealight holder in the last video... has done some warping already! Makes it look even better!
These should probably have been made into 3 or 4 videos... But as the most timely part of each project is getting it held in place. I would recommend that anyone wanting to try something like this should use dry branches! My initial plan was to use the glue and then ... When it was really stuck... I could use my microwave trick to take them apart again! As it was when I did get the glut to stick at all ... It presented no problems in removing it! Must have been something to do with the sap still flowing!
These little chucks have an awful lot of usefulness in that the adjustments can be particular to the shape of your piece... I don't know if you noticed or not... But when the chuck didn't hold it the first time... I released the jaws on either side and tightened the ends more... Once those were as tight as they were going to get... I snugged the side ones in tight ( more to make for less flying metal) but it made for a nice tight fit!
There were a few delays in the production of this video as I got a newer computer part way through... So there is the obligatory delving into new things ... And then trying to figure out how it all works... Win7 being add into a Win8.1 environment... Still a few things that I am stumbling across but I think it's going to work out well!
ht holder used an electric tealight that had most of its shell removed so that I could make it fit! It worked pretty good! I am going to see how much more I can get rid of... make it a slim line tealight!
The platter that the dishes are sitting on is a piece of fig that was a cut off and I have sanded it and allowed it to warp as much as it wants... After two years I think it has finished! I have also thought that it would make a great rim for a small cowboy hat! Who knows!
3000+! That's a lot of people! And to each and every one of you ... I say "Thank You!" You all have made this last year and a half something incredible! I may take a little longer to make my videos now... But they are what fill my days... Without you there to appreciate them, there wouldn't be much point would there? I will continue to strive to be better with my turning... There are always new things to try... And I will try and keep up with this software and computing power that ... makes every effort to swallow me whole!
