Well this is a Quaich…
After my Spurtle last week… Tom suggested that I was shy a Quaich to complete my Scottish utensil collection! Thank you Tom!
I am afraid that my pronunciation may be a little off…
(the Heritage is Irish not Scottish)

In my opinion they are pretty opposite though…
One ends a dispute…
The first Quaich I tried needed a little more thought and a more solid piece of timber! I will try further attempts at it in the future. (I like deadlines like that!)
I don’t believe I remember saying what kind of wood this was…
It was Spalted Maple…
And the one that didn’t make it was Scotch Broom… I had thought that would be a cool thing to do it with… but the piece I had that big was really punky in the middle… so not too suitable.
Funny… with the Spalted Maple there only ended up being a couple of spots that showed the spalting… and the best one can only be seen from the bottom!
My attempts at drilling holes taught me some good lessons… I thought to cover both sides of the wood with Scotch tape (irony?) to hold the wood together more while I drilled it… but also to give me a way of putting marks on without marking the wood… (I seem to change my mind about these things a lot…)
Well that was all well and fine but the tape could only be marked on easily by a Sharpie felt marker… which leaves a 1/8” dot! “O”. When you are working with a 1/16” drill bit “o” that still leaves a lot of room for error! And I am sure that I took as much room as I could on every one of them!
Next time will be painters tape and a fine marker… I think I may have to watch Brendan’s Pea Planting technique again before I make next attempt!
Sending a shout out to Brendan was like giving a shout out to a family member. After only a couple of videos… you find yourself wondering … hmm… I wonder what Brendan is up to today… and wonders never cease… he is usually there to let you know!
Well I guess that is all I have to say for now…
