Well here is a fine how do you do!
This has been up all day and I went out... not realizing that I had neglected to put anything here in the description! Or maybe the bowl was just beyond description!
Fir is one of those woods that can have some beautiful grain patterns... trying to get them all to sit down properly can be a bit of a challenge! But once you do... and then you hit it with some shellac... it can make an awful lot of effort worthwhile!
Having the tools to tackle something like this can make life a whole lot easier too! I thought that what I had was ... maybe not the best... but... not bad! I was really surprised at how adding a handle to a gouge can make that much difference to the way it handles. It felt pretty much as I had expected... the aluminum knurling grip... the weight was a little more than I had counted on... but when you start working with it... it handles completely different from the way it was! I still have a lot of playing to do with it yet... but I have found that the balance changes somehow and allows you to keep it better placed...? These are just a few of my thoughts that seemed like good ones to share!

I am sure that anyone who uses a card scraper would not be at all surprised that this would work... but I was pleasantly surprised! It is just a little shop knife that I have had for years... and carried it in my pocket until continuous sharpening over 30 years made it so the blade was no longer covered when closed! A few sharp reminders in my pocket made me stop carrying it! So it stays in the shop now and gets used for all kinds of things!
Cedric has taken a week off... he is off on some adventure of his own right now... but he will be back soon... I think?! I’m not quite sure what he is up to but he has been hanging out at the neighbours place this last little bit? I don’t know! We’ll see when he gets back!
