A Quaich like this is used as a vessel for Scotch... so I am assuming about 3 ounces... I haven't actually measured it... but a shot and a half each sounds like a good settlement! But they also make Quaichs for beer... and those get up to 1.6 liters! Now there would be a good way to start a wedding!
So this was as much different as it was the same! I sort of sound like a broken record with my ebony and ca filler... but it has done a pretty good job again! Like I said in the video though I think I will have to look into the resin products as well! I've seen some of the things that Peter Brown has come up with and there are a lot of possibilities there!
Something that I tried to do with the handle here... that I don't think showed up all that well... was I tried to curve it downward... you will find that where it connects to the body it is only a millimeter or 1/16” thick and then its outside edge... at its lowest point is about 4mm or 1/4” below that. It doesn't show much better than I can explain it... but it makes a nicer feel to the unit.
When I turned this around... you will notice that it took some while to get it running true... I tried three times to tighten onto the spigot left in the middle... and then finally expanded the jaws and that held a lot better! Must have cut a better dove tail in that side!
The shellac story I found fascinating... 300 000 bugs per kilo!! And yet it is only about $30 a pound? I wonder how many bugs there are on a tree? The rest of the site is very good at showing you everything you want to know... and then at the end you realize that they didn't tell you much at all... but if you bought their video you would know ever so much more!
