So like I said, there are lot’s of places to buy kits for this kind of thing...
But there are lots of places that sell the completed ones for not very much money at all!
And they are not that hard to take apart!
The Jatoba was a nice wood to turn and has a wonderful rich colour. It even polished up pretty good just with sandpaper!
And then to use the SAMO finish (1/3,1/3,1/3, Shellac. Alcohol, Mineral Oil) on it really made it sparkle!
I didn’t go into the mounting of the scoop to the handle as it was done just the same as the pizza cutter. Find a drill bit the same size as the thickness of the tang and then drill 3 holes side by side, in the end and glue it in place.
And some of you may wonder about the bead on the back end ...
Well it turned out that the small hole in that end of the wood wasn’t just a centering mark. There had been a hole drilled into it! And when I parted it off... the hole was still there! I could have use the glue and sawdust trick but I thought the bead would do the trick. It is just one of those stick on half beads. I have various other half jewels in case she wants something different!
I am afraid that I have done these YouTube creators a grave injustice.
I have thanked them...
But I don’t have a list of all the site names so I could send other people their way! (chemo brain working overtime!)
I would imagine that over time I will get each of them a turn when I do proper shout outs!
I certainly have to work on getting that green screen stuff working better...
I am thinking that during the summer I should be able to take it outside where I could move the camera farther away. Not sure how it will work for shadows though. There is no place inside that I can put the camera more than 10’.
And of course it is a lot easier with the iPad as you can see what is going on...
But the sound quality makes it so that I have to run my CanonSX160 at the same time to be able to record the sound properly.
I am learning lots about it and look forward to using it in interesting ways in the future!
