G'day everyone,
Actual last minute project. I was 95 percent of the way through a metal project, and as it happened, it needed some wood knobs, and I don't have a proper way to turn wood (nicely).
Now wood turning was on my list of things to get done, since I am probably going to be making some wood stools for my laundry and garage (whether I film that is uncertain) and some drawers that will need knobs, and to do so I would need the ability to turn wood.
It is not enough to justify buying a wood lathe, but I want a method other than using the carriage handwheels to "try" and make some compound curves.
So in this video I will make a spur for driving and holding the wood. This is better than using the 3 jaw chuck, which bites into the wood, leaving marks, and can catch the tool, which is dangerous.
I will also make a t rest for the turning tool and I will also make two wood turning tools, a skew chisel and a rouging gouge. Or something that resembles those two tools. I am not a wood turning expert, but they are still turning tools and basic principles apply. I hope you enjoy the video.
