G'day everyone. Welcome back to Building a soundproof workshop - part 3. In this series I turn my double garage into a soundproof workshop and wood working space. By this point it had been a year since I decided to commit to this project, and after a lot of research, design and prep work, it was finally time to start building.
Before we could get into framing proper, I had to make some acoustic plugs to go into the spaces between the brick piers. Brick piers are a result of the way that detached garages are built in the UK and Australia. These columns of bricks stick out at regular intervals, which means if you place down a stud wall, we would be left with these big voids of empty space. Which is a problem for soundproofing.
So in the first video I had to make 6 plugs to fill in the spaces with acoustic insulation, which was also great practice for making stud walls. In addition to this I could get to grips with using vapour barriers, damp proof courses and insulation strapping
