Join me on this Lake District solo wildcamp, i set off from the carpark at Tiberthwaite, taking the meandering path up the beautiful Langdale valley towards Wetherlam. Taking in the mining history, meandering rivers and misty views along the way. I quickly reach the bottom of the mountain, and start the ascent, on hitting the snow layer I started to tire quickly, this part of the route was a lot harder than I anticipated, slippy snow and ice covered rocks slowed me down and sapped my energy! I eventually summit Wetherlam, and quickly cool down with the icy wind cutting through my clothing. I had planned to do Swirl how and Great carrs as well, but it became quickly evident to me that I didn't have the time or energy to go any further. I searched around on the summit for a pitch, but in these frozen conditions I couldn't find one, the thought of descending via the dangerously steep and slippery route in the morning was praying on my mind. I know my limits, and I had reached them, so I descended the same route while it was still daylight, and found a cracking little pitch for the night just below the main climb, looking up at my nemesis for the day. Once the tent was set up I quickly cooked my evening meal and ate it, and felt so much better. I got my head down early and had a good night's sleep before grabbing my breakfast, packing up the tent and heading home after a great adventure.
