The start-up, shutdown, critical stop, and other sounds were all copied from a fresh Windows XP installation before Windows XP itself was declared End Of Life (EOL) back in 2014.
Windows XP was/is the greatest operating system ever, but Microsoft forced us out to inferior operating systems such as Windows Vista, Windows 8, and even to Windows 10.
Rest in peace, Windows XP 2001-2014!
We miss you lots. :(
