I recently found my first camera ever in storage, a Kodak Euro 35 Legend 35mm point and shoot film camera from about 1990. The battery compartment was ruined and the flash no longer works, but the camera can be tricked into working. Using information from a couple of useful websites, I managed to figure out how to make the camera work again. I loaded it with Cinestill 35mm BwXX black and white film and went to a new favorite spot with Madi. We took photographs on the Euro 35, but also with the Fujifilm GFX 50s medium format digital camera. In addition, I began experimenting with the Beaulieu R16 16mm film camera, though we'll have to wait a few weeks to see results from that one.
The outdoor portrait photographs with Madi were made in overcast light, which helped keep the exposures even and easy. They also lent a nice hand to the very limited point and shoot film camera I was using. And the results STUNNED me! I save them all for a little slideshow about halfway through the video. The black and white photographs were scanned using my DSLR/Camera scan technique, utilizing the Fujifilm GFX 50s, an old Hasselblad 80mm lens and a couple of Hasselblad extension tubes, set up on a copy stand and using an Artograph light table.
To me, it proves that you don't need much of a camera to make what (to me) are good photographs. A little bit of knowledge and some attention to light -- and faith that what you learn and try can work -- can take you all the way. I'm definitely taking this old friend out again!
