The Switchpod made a splash when it wound up in the hands of creators like Peter McKinnon, and the marketing tactic worked judging by their massive Kickstarter success. I purchased the Switchpod during this "early bird" special, and it's been floating around my bag the last few weeks. I can be slow to accept new gear into my workflow, and decided to make a final decision on this piece of kit. It opens with a technical "failure" when I make outdoor portraits at sunset in Tyler State Park in Tyler, Texas. The photos were styled by Caitlin Brax of Alex and Afton Vintedge, soon to be in Dallas Texas' Bishop Arts District. I photographed everything on my Fujifilm GFX 50s with a Fuji GF 32-64 lens. I was working in the woods and decided that my Manfrotto tripod did a better job of getting a higher and maybe less awkward angle.
From there, I decided to take the Switchpod out to a city park close to my home to use it for the type of "on the go" vlogging it seems aimed toward. I parked my Fuji XT-2 and Movo mini microphone on top of it. I also modified the Switchpod with an old and small-ish ball head. I took my Mavic Air up for a quick flight at the park, too. So make sure to stick around for a little bit of a drone montage of Longview, Texas.
