Why you shouldn't strive for happiness.
Happiness is a temporary state and any goal or value based in something temporary is a pursuit we have to give up as part of growing. Instead i think we should value truth and meaning above happiness. Both Aristotle, Carl Jung as well as more recently, Jordan Peterson, saw meaning as fundamental in one's life.
In this video i contemplate happiness, truth, life as well as the self and the ego. I explore the Aristotelian concept of eudaimonia (loosely translated to flourishing) as the final goal of humanity as well as ego death and the temptation of hedonism.
This video is a clip from a longer video titled "There is Hope after Detransition" which i released back in June last year. The video focused on life after detransition and how to find yourself and trust yourself after the process of transition and detransition. This is also the first video in which i briefly touched upon the subject of philosophy.
