Audio Description is a great way for those who are blind or low vision to enjoy TV shows, movies, stage productions, and various other visual things. It comes in the form of an accompanying audio narration that explains the visual elements. Many of the companies providing AD employ a human narrator to record the Audio Description. Unfortunately, this isn't the case for every company providing AD. Some have resorted to using text-to-speech, a.k.a computer generated Audio Description. While this does have its place in certain areas, I do not believe it should be in most areas where a human narrator can do the job. Here, I share my thoughts on why I personally do not like text-to-speech AD and why I think it's important to have a person doing the narration.
