In the 1950s, during the height of the Cold War, some U.S. towns participated in "Strengthen the Arm of Liberty" program, which involved the Boy Scouts. At least 200 towns/cities in 39 states had a Statue of Liberty replica. Some of them still remain today. But why do they exist? I go deep into this topic in this episode.
Some of the towns that I filmed in, include Cape Girardeau, Malden, Memphis and Jefferson City (all in Missouri). Benton, Illinois and Des Moines, Iowa.
