Route 66 originally came through Venice, Illinois from 1926 to 1929 - its first four years. This was to give access to the McKinley Bridge (built in 1910) for locals and travelers. In 1930, it was re-routed not too far from this location to Brooklyn and East St. Louis. Today, a short portion of the roadbed is driveable but not by much. #route66 #route66illinois
