Obviously sharpness (and the blade's cross-section, width, thickness, etc) matters in a sword fight, historical or fictional. The game Half Sword with its physics based fighting mechanics simulates damage based on which part of the weapon hits. But oh boy, are the blades sharp... Eat your heart out, anime katana! ;)
