This is a song about betrayal. I’m sure we’ve all felt let down or that someone has betrayed our trust at some point and, as I want my songs to be universal, I did not want these lyrics to be more specific or dark.
But for you who subscribe (thank you for your continued support by the way. It means very much to me) or have stumbled upon this page, this song was inspired by a very disturbing recent case in the Uk which mirrors the infamous Pelicot case, where a French woman had been drugged by her husband for many years and he had also invited strangers to abuse his wife.
In the Uk case the husband’s identity has not been revealed to protect his wife but he and 13 other men are to stand trial this September in connection with the case.
I read this news story a couple of days ago. It’s Sunday 28th now and I’m uploading it but probably won’t make it public for a day or two.
I usually just write when I feel like writing a song, but sometimes I just have to, this one was a “have to”.
This song is my imagining of what these women may feel upon reflecting on a life, on a love, that was a lie.
To have lived with a man and not known him at all, nor what he was doing, or capable of doing, and the betrayal of one’s trust in such a way would be horrendous and heartbreaking.
