This song tells the story of a lifelong drifter who once avoided commitment but now, with age, longs for love and stability. It’s a reflective, country/folk-style ballad about changing priorities and the desire to settle down.
lyrics and melody by Harriet Barbir
Many thanks to Sebastian Stone who played all the instruments on this track and who recorded and mastered it at SKP Recording Studios
And special thanks to @jon@jonthomassings5003o gave me the wonderful lyric “if they asked me to stay, I’d draw a picture of me walking out the door.” That line just encapsulated for me a certain kind of character to incorporate into and inspire this song. Please check out his channel and enjoy his wonderful, laid back, happy hour performances from sunny California. You can also

![where are you now - an original song
I am hoping to record this song in the next week or two but wanted to share it now. On the surface, it is just a love song about the disconnect within a relationship and when it finds its way onto spotify etc, perhaps that’s all that a listener will take from it. However, here I can tell you that the inspiration for this song is dementia and for those families touched by that the lyrics might resonate a little deeper.
It is dementia action week May19- 25 and, as I doubt the recorded version will be available by then, I have decided to post this now.
lyrics and melody written by Harriet Barbir May 2025
Where are You Now?
c, dm, am
you don’t know I miss you,
you just don’t understand
c, dm, am
even when i’m here beside you
even when i take your hand
f. g
it’s like a door i can’t push through
(f) to reach the other side of you (g7)
(c) where (em) are you (am) now
where can (f) i find you
where can i find you (g) (g7)
(c) where is the (em) love you’ve (am) buried
can i (f) remind you, can i remind you (g)
your eyes they look right through me
It’s like you never knew me
it’s hard to see who i adored be
disappearing right before me
(c) where (em) are you (am) now
where can (f) i find you
where can i find you (g) (g7)
