This is an anti war song - it’s a simply melody with simple lyrics but i hope
the message gets through that peace isn’t handed down
it’s built by us.

I asked the moon and stars
(g)!why can’t we stop these (c) wars,
why can’t we stop the (g) hate?
While children suffer in the (c) wars that we (g) create?
(d) seems that people have no (c) answers,
countries have no (g) choice
but to kill and maim and (c) starve those kids who haven’t got a (g) voice
So I asked the moon and stars,
to reflect from up above
from their place among the heavens to shine a bit more love
they gazed
upon the earth, and though it needed much more light
they said they couldn’t help
and then retreated to the night
I asked the mighty ocean if it could turn the tide
it said it couldn’t deal with racial hate or genocide
It’s much too busy making waves
and getting ships safely to shore
to deal with famine, bombs or casualties of war.

(d) let’s live in (am) peace before it (g)ends
The earth was scorched by fire, burnt children in the night
so i asked the air to blow out fires with all its might
to sweep love through cities ‘til the people knew
that peace begins and war is ended by the people, me and you.

(g) forgetting race, (c) forgetting (g) greed
let’s deal in (c) love that’s all this world (g) needs.
