They went from CRADLE TO GRAVE with depressing speed, but where were royal babies buried during the Tudor and Stuart eras? In this royal history documentary from History Calling we look at some of the graves of the children of Henry VII, Henry VIII, James I, Charles I, Charles II, James II and Queen Anne. Our journey will include stops at some of the most famous chapels, cathedrals and abbeys in the United Kingdom including Westminster Abbey and St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Focusing on the children of monarchs, I’ll also talk about some of the miåssing graves of royal children; those little Princes and Princesses who we know existed but whose final resting place has long since been forgotten, such as Prince Henry Tudor, Duke of Cornwall, firstborn son of Catherine of Aragon and Henry VIII. I’ll show you some monuments to dead royal children, including to Princess Sophia and Princess Mary, daughters of James I and Anne of Denmark and describe what was found when some vaults in Westminster Abbey were opened up by the Victorians and the little coffins seen for the first time in centuries. I’ll also tell you the stories of these forgotten royals, who didn’t live long enough to wear a crown or even grow up, but who deserve to be remembered just as their famous parents and siblings are and look at the burial of an illegitimate royal child who was forgotten by history until his little coffin was rediscovered.
