Here are my thoughts on the purpose of the modern title sequence, or opening titles, and how it has evolved over time. If you are studying long form TV Drama for A-Level Media Studies or GCSE, this may be particularly helpful as part of your case studies!
Lots of examples are use, old and new, to argue that TV Drama opening titles are use to establish the show's themes, create a mini-cliff hanger at the very start, and to let people know who made it!
Specific examples include the walking dead and quantum leap
