Reverend J Sylvan then discusses the concept of enchantment and its historical connection to pre-Enlightenment beliefs in magic and spirits, contrasting it with the rise of rationality and modern science during the Enlightenment. Rev. J's sermon explores the role of metaphor in shaping our understanding of consciousness and finding meaning in the world. The loss of metaphorical understanding, and Western culture's loss of its capacity for uncertainty and awe, are considered as contributors to disenchantment.
