December 8, 2024 service for the First Unitarian Church of Salt Lake City. Reverend J Sylvan's sermon explores non-canonical accounts of the Holy Family, particularly drawing on the Infancy Gospel of James to challenge the traditional, normalized image of the Holy Family, and to question rigid, nuclear family models, linking them to broader contemporary understandings of family that include queer, blended, chosen, and platonic families. Ultimately, Rev. Sylvan invites us to open our hearts and minds to the many new ways family can look, so as to not overlook the rich diversity of βholy familiesβ all around us.
