Space is the subject of fascination for many people. Anything could be out there, it’s the next step for civilization, the great beyond, the final frontier. As far as science is concerned the universe outside of earth is silent. No life, no organisms, just, nothing, and that’s scary. Staring into space is staring into the void. A vast emptiness that, while filled with stars, lacks so much density that they may as well be infinitely out of reach. Maybe it’s comforting knowing that beyond our atmosphere is nothing. But fear is born from what we don’t know, and if there is one thing I can be certain of when it comes to the cosmos, it’s that there's something out there, and that’s terrifying. Dead Space, an ironic title for a game where the greatest threat is life itself, released initially in 2008, was developed by Redwood Shores, published by EA, and stars Isaac Clark. The year is 2058, and earth is nearly uninhabitable. Isaac, on one of many ships sent to mine other planets for resources, has to make a pitstop on one of their larger models due to a distress signal. Fine by him, he’ll get to reunite with his girlfriend Nicole. Clark is an engineer, not trained for combat and his suit, pristine in its minimal copper glory, presumably hasn’t seen bloodshed before. That changes remarkably fast. But, we’ve been here before haven’t we?
Dead Space was remade in 2023 and with it came some significant changes such as Isaac having a voice, the backtracking being cut down and said backtracking being more dynamic, and of course, there has been an intense graphical overhaul. I’ll be looking at the remake purely because I believe it is the best way to experience the game, and hey, it’s even free on Playstation Plus. This game looks gorgeous, but not really. I mean, yea the lighting is nice, texture work is superb, but, the place is a dump, and I appreciate what they were going for. No wall is without a cry for help haphazardly scrawled across it, no room without blood splattered across the floor, and there are many points where these decorations add to the fear. Enemies often come out of vents in the early game, and said vents all look the same, they even have convenient yellow paint on them, assumedly so the staff of the aegis know what they're supposed to interact with. But you might notice that these vents are everywhere, sometimes with accompanied blood, and sometimes with their cover completely torn off.
Dead Space was released originally in 2008, but the Dead Space remake was released in 2023, and that what will be covered today. An old Dead Space review doesn't make much sense as a Dead Space remake review, because Dead Space 2023 is by far the best way to experience the game. This Dead Space retrospective, Dead Space analysis, and Dead Space critique, will look at Dead Space years later to see if it still holds up, and see if the Dead Space remake VS original is better, which, spoilers; it is better. This will also lightly explain the Dead Space story, and of course the Dead Space twist that has plagued every Dead Space fun facts video of the last decade. This video will be light on story, but it's because, ultimately, the goal is to explain why I called Dead Space perfect horror, and why it's the best horror game I ever played. If this video does well I may consider doing Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3, to see where the story takes Isaac Clarke.

I want to give you a different perspective on this assassins creed odyssey review, critique, analysis, defence, whatever you want to call it. All the thoughts in this video are purely my opinion so if you disagree thats ok. Im open to having discussions with you guys as long as it stays civil. I hope you guys enjoy this video and thanks so much for 19K subscribers. Its wild.
The following is a brief summary of the game.
Assassins Creed: Odyssey is the eleventh main installment in the Assassins Creed series developed by Ubisoft. The game was primarily developed by Ubisoft Québec, which had previously worked on Assassins Creed: Syndicate. The concept for the game emerged in 2015, as the team was wrapping up development on Syndicate. In the shift to an RPG-esque game, inspiration was taken from titles such as The Witcher 3, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls, in regards to the idea of player choice. The development team engaged in communication with the team behind Assassins Creed: Origins; it was decided to quote: push [the series] forward with the introduction of RPG elements. The setting of ancient Greece was chosen as it was one of the most requested settings from the fanbase.
Odyssey uses a lot of the same graphics technology as Origins. Far more colour was used in the game; the designers tried to tap into the notion that the ancient Greeks believed that their land was built by the gods, thus the use of vibrant colours. There was pushback against the ordinary depictions of ancient Greece, which lean on it being an arid place with an emphasis on white and gold. The end result is intended to be a middle-ground between historical accuracy and vibrancy.
The games genetic memory story is set in 431 BCE, recounting the secret history of the Peloponnesian War, fought between the city-states of ancient Greece. The protagonist is a mercenary named either Alexios or Kassandra who can choose to fight for either Athens and the Delian League or Sparta and the Peloponnesian League, as well as against the Cult of Kosmos. The modern-day segments will again follow Layla Hassan, who was first introduced in Assassins Creed Origins, and her story will touch on the Isu.
Odyssey uses a lot of the gameplay and interface mechanics of Origins, including the radial compass, and the return of a bird that can survey the landscape, spot treasure, and highlight and harass enemies.
The game features RPG elements, including dialogue options, branching quests, multiple possible endings, romance options, and the ability to select between a male or female protagonist. Reportedly, the game is a full RPG, and will push the franchise into this genre. Both Alexios and Kassandra follow the same story. Romance options remain the same regardless of the character chosen. Interactions with NPCs can have consequences, either short or long term, in regards to the story. Choices are said to add up. Relationships with NPCs dont always change, and there is no binary divide in regards to interaction—lying to an NPC isnt necessarily a bad choice, and vice versa. By extension, there is no right way to play the game in regards to character choice.
Gear can be selected, and is classified by rarity. Each piece of gear can be enhanced with engravings. Players also have access to a skill tree, and can follow a branch to better suit their playstyle. Compared to Origins, the skill tree is more clear cut in Odyssey, and players can unlock high tier versions of pre-existing skills. In combat, the hitbox system for enemies is used again.
The game world has been described as the biggest one yet for the franchise; specifically, the game map is 100 square miles, split evenly between land and sea. Environments range from forests to mountains, to beaches. Legendary animals can be hunted on land. The world is divided into the number of zones divided by level (similar to an MMO), but level scaling features to a point. For instance, if a player starts at a level 2 zone, then returns after having reached level 20, the enemies there will be scaled up to be 2-3 below the players character.
The Sparta-Athens divide is represented in-game with a red or blue border along each region to indicate which of the city-states has control. 28 city-states feature in the game, each of which is allied with either Sparta or Athens. Each city-state has a national power level. If one city-state leader is weakened (e.g. by assassinating their leader), other faction leaders will invade their state. If the invading army is defeated, the nations power is reset. The army will invade regardless of the players actions, but they can involve themselves in the battle.
