In this video I take a look at what oscilloscopes or scopes are and how they can be used in testing and fault finding in electronic circuits.
Oscilloscopes are one of the most important pieces of test equipment that can be used with electronic circuits. They enable you to see the actual waveforms.
To understand more about their concept, take the example of a voltage varying up and down with time. If this is measured over time then it traces out the waveform as we see with this sine wave here.
This waveform can be displayed on the oscilloscope screen and the controls can be used to ensure that it's displayed in the best way to give the insights needed.
Oscilloscopes come in all shapes and sizes and there are many types. There are some old analogue ones, but most of today's ones are digital like these. . . . . There are also USB scopes which are often just a box but they are linked to a computer, which provides the controls and displays the results.
With such a wide choice and with varying levels of performance and cost you can choose what is best for you.
