In this video I will show you some of the techniques I used to repair and upgrade a much loved pair of old speakers. The loudspeakers were a pair of Goodmans Magnum SLs and they were supposed to be really excellent. I had always been a little disappointed, but over many years I have repaired the faults and improved and enhanced their performance.
I didn't want to just get rid of them, so but instead I wanted to keep them going. Also this gave much better starting point than building a loudspeaker. The cabinet was there and it was not necessary to create this as part of a complete loudspeaker building project.
This video tracks the many stages of the loudspeaker project to not only repair the loudspeakers but to also enhance or improve their performance.
Although I had no audio test equipment or sound chambers to test them, the loudspeaker repairs and improvements have given a marked improvement to their performance.
I don't want to claim that they are perfect now, but for me the work I have done has really paid off.
My aim in sharing this is to inspire others to look at some of their old loudspeakers to see what can be done. Whether they might be able to repair these loudspeakers, and upgrade and improve them with more modern speaker units and with other improvements to provide a much better level of performance.
