If you plan to ever sleep on a boat while at anchor, you will quickly learn that if you want to get more then a few winks without worrying about dragging, then you better educate yourself about all there is about ground tackle. During my journey from Tampa to Morehead City along the I.C.W., I asked a lot of questions and learned quite a bit through real-world, hard knocks. One especially interesting anchoring technique involved a 'snubber'. I found it to be beneficial in some ways and potentially troublesome in other ways. The idea of the snubber fouling the anchor line while I was single handing kept me from using it most of the time. But it was still interesting enough to warrant a video about it. One thing I didn't mention was that if you use nylon rope as an anchor line, it will stretch very much like the bungee I used. However, chain keeps the heel of the anchor down and set, WAY better then rope. So, a compromise was to use practically all chain with the shock-cord snubber as protection against anchor drag. Turned out in the end, I settled on upgrading from the traditional Danforth style anchor to the newer, quick-setting Mantus. I'm excited to share more about that but I want to keep the timeline intact, so I'll get back to that later. Meantime, let me know what you think about snubbers. Did I get it right?
