WE'RE GETTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER!
Well, not really. Technically, this band never existed, in time or space!
Reminicing with my friend Willy, he reminded me that just after he moved from the US, we got together and jammed. That jam included the GFR (Todd Rundgren produced) classic: We're an American Band. So, we decided to record a cover ... 50 years later.
I went online to see how others had covered it and came across Sina's version. There was no point in me playing the drum part as she had already played it better than I could even attempt. I next looked at the bass part and found a version posted by Swiftydooda where he absolutely nailed it. Since Willy was going to do the vocals, I decided I would do the guitar and keyboards, otherwise there would be nothing left!
Engineering-wise, Willy lives 1,000 miles away from me, so he sang his part on his phone and I used iZotope's Nectar to generate harmonies. I used iZotope's RX8 editor to extract Sina and Swiftydooda's performances (à la Peter Jackson's Get Back technology). The result is a series of recordings made over several years, by musician's that have never met each other, which has been assembled to create this cover.
