LET'S JAM (virually)!
Throughout the tragedy of this pandemic, musicians have attempted to raise the human spirit. From Italian balconies, French rooftops, New York windows, and small community curbsides, musicians have honoured frontline workers, regaled the elderly and entertained people when they needed it most.
Last week I watched a Paul Davids' video, where 10 Guitarists play a solo over the same Backing Track. It was both entertaining and inspiring. I enjoyed the video so much, I spent the week studying all 10 solos. The similarities and differences were amazing.
This got me to thinking, "why not open this up to other Guitarists?" ... so I created a Backing Track and I am challenging all Guitarists to record and post their solos! The more, the merrier! Fast, slow, heavy, light, chords, hammer-ons, slide, picking, acoustic, electric ... anything is good. Oh yes, you might want to record your version before you listen to anyone else's (sometimes it is a challenge to get someone's cool riff out of your head).
The Backing Track is purposefully open, so you can tell your story without too many anchors (a mixolydian metaphor). The count-in and chords are on the video. The tune consists of a verse and chorus, then another verse and chorus, then a solo, and finally a verse with a fade out ending. It is kind of funny putting a guitar solo in the middle of a solo guitar piece, but the solo section is heavier and lets you bring in a different playing style.
