"This is the End"
was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
The Doors concluded their 1967 self-titled first album with "The End". The depressing minor-keyed tune was penned by their singer Jim Morrison. Morrison wrote the song about his break up with an old girlfriend, but he knew the lyrics alluded to the inevitable acceptance of death.
"People fear death even more than pain. It's strange that they fear death. Life hurts a lot more than death. At the point of death, the pain is over. Yeah – I guess it is a friend."
In 1971, Morrison died unexpectedly in Paris, France at the age of 27. Since no autopsy was performed, the cause of Morrison's death remains disputed.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
