The evidence is clear: climate change poses an increased risk to peace and stability by exacerbating drivers of conflict, whereby the most vulnerable ones bear the brunt. These risks will increase and multiply in the future. With every tenth of degree of global warming, we are approaching dangerous tipping points in the Earth system, with possibly unprecedented implications for peace and security. In this keynote, Professor Rockström presents state of the art evidence on the multiple linkages between climate, conflict and insecurity and emphasizes the need to better understand and address these risks.
