January is the worst month. It's cold, it's gray, and spring in months away. We are in the doldrums of winter and the end is nowhere to be seen. Fortunately, I may have stumbled upon a solution. The Weathered Axe from Danny Shapiro, the head bartender at Chicago's Scofflaw. If you like bourbon (or Scotch!), citrus, and fighting seasonal affective disorder, you need to try this cocktail immediately.

WEATHERED AXE
- 1 1/2oz bourbon, preferably 100-proof
- 3/4oz lemon juice
- 1/2oz orange liqueur
- 1/2oz Cocchi Americano
- 1/2oz ginger syrup
- Rosemary garnish
Shake and serve over ice.

Cheers!
