Talk of the U.S.-Canada trade war spilling into the power grid drew new attention this week after the Premier of Ontario raised the possibility of using electricity exports as leverage.

The Premier, Doug Ford, suggested Ontario could raise the price of electricity that flows into the Northeast U.S., or cut off the power altogether. So far, energy has not been a target of either side in the trade war, but if it becomes one, it would mark a dramatic escalation.
