In this WAVLINK SSD Enclosure Review, I unbox this external SSD enclosure and put a high-speed gaming SSD inside it. I show you how to set the external SSD up on your computer, then I speed test it and compare its speed to another popular high-speed external SSD enclosure.
This Wavlink SSD enclosure is compatible with size 2280 SSDs, which are either M key or B&M key NVMe SSDs. I'm using the Western Digital WD Black SN770 2 TB High Speed SSD, which has an M key attachment.
NVMe SSD stands for Non-Volatile Memory Express Solid State Drive, and PCIe SSD stands for Peripheral Component Interconnect Express solid-state drive.
This WAVLINK external SSD enclosure was given to me by the company to review after they saw and liked a review I did of the ACASIS TBU405 SSD enclosure. I purchased the 2 TB WD Black Gaming SSD with my own money so I could compare the WAVLINK to my ACASIS, which also has the WD Black Gaming SSD.
I originally got the ACASIS with the WD Black so I could save space on my Mac Mini's hard drive and run applications from the external SSD. That's worked out very well for me, and I think it's a great idea for a number of reasons.
I ran read/write speed tests to compare the Acasis to the Wavlink, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Wavlink performed better.
I think it's important to note that the Acasis has no internal cooling fan, but it's stayed cool enough in spite of that. The Wavlink has an internal fan, and that seems like a good idea. The downside is you can hear the fan running in the Wavlink, but fortunately, it's not very loud.
I am happy with the WAVLINK external SSD enclosure, and I think it's a good enclosure based upon my experience with it so far. I've been using my ACASIS for over a year now, and I expect it to keep working for a long time. I hope I can get a lot of use out of the WAVLINK as well.
