Are you curious about microneedling at home? In this review, I share my 6-week experience using the SDARA Derma Roller, giving you a detailed look at how it works, my results, and tips for use.

What’s Inside the SDARA Derma Roller Box?
The SDARA Derma Roller comes with 540 titanium microneedles, each measuring 0.25 mm in length. This length is ideal for beginners, as it doesn't penetrate too deeply into the skin, making it a safer option for at-home use.

Microneedling, or "derma rolling," creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin, which stimulates the body's natural wound-healing processes. With needles of this length, the roller is useful for improving the absorption of skincare products for about 8-10 minutes after use. It’s also believed to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, it’s important to note that according to research, longer needles (greater than 0.25 mm) are typically needed to stimulate collagen production.

How to Use the SDARA Derma Roller
Before getting into my results, let me walk you through how to properly use the SDARA Derma Roller:

Sanitize the Roller: Before using, soak the roller in alcohol for a few minutes, or spray it with alcohol and let it sit for 60 seconds. Rinse with tap water afterward.

Prepare Your Skin: Thoroughly wash your face and pat it dry with a clean towel.

Roll It On: Gently roll the derma roller over the desired areas of your face—first horizontally, then vertically; about 2-3 times in each direction. Be sure to lift the roller off your skin after each pass and avoid changing directions mid-roll. This ensures a consistent application without over-traumatizing the skin.

The 0.25mm needles are short enough that there's less risk for significant injury or scarring, which is why they’re a great option for those just starting with microneedling.

My Results After 6 Weeks of Microneedling

I used the SDARA Derma Roller once per week for six weeks, applying no additional skincare products to my skin afterward, because there's more risk when applying skin care products. The manufacturer recommends replacing your roller every 6 weeks if used regularly (once per week), which is what I followed.

During this period, I noticed that a small mark on my face faded significantly, almost disappearing by the end of the 6 weeks. You can see the difference in the before-and-after images in this video. I'm pretty sure that the derma roller made a minor cosmetic improvement to my skin, particularly on that spot I refer to in the video.

However, I did experience bumps on my forehead throughout the process, which I assume is a reaction to the microneedling. These bumps smoothed out about 4 weeks after I stopped using the roller, leaving my forehead mostly clear again.

My Thoughts on Using the Derma Roller
Overall, my results were modest but noticeable. While I don't think I’ll use a derma roller regularly, I’m intrigued by the potential benefits of controlled micro-injury for skin health and appearance. That said, microneedling may not be for everyone, and I recommend consulting with a dermatologist before incorporating it into your routine, especially when considering the application of any skincare products after use.

I also tested another derma roller brand during this experiment, alternating between the SDARA roller and the other brand each week. Both had similar specifications (titanium needles, same needle count), so I feel confident that the results I achieved can be attributed to microneedling in general rather than the specific brand.

Final Thoughts: Is Microneedling Right for You?
If you're considering at-home microneedling with the SDARA Derma Roller, I hope my experience gives you some insight. While the roller did seem to help fade a mark on my face, I'm not going to be mirconeeding on a regular basis. I also think you'd get the best results going to a dermatologist, but of course that can get expensive.
