🎨 One of the hardest lessons in watercolor? Knowing when to wait.
It’s so tempting to keep adding and adding- to try and finish everything in one go. But watercolor rewards patience and understanding how water behaves. The amount of water on your brush, in your paint, and on your paper will completely change your results.
In my first leaf, I rushed it. I kept layering on damp paper, and everything blended together- no definition, muddy colors, and a flat result.😭🖌️
In my second, I slowed down. I started with a soft wet-on-wet base for natural gradients, let it dry fully, and then added the veins and sharper details on dry paper.
✨ The key takeaway: Plan your layers. Think about what techniques you’ll use, when to move quickly, and when to pause.
