Stop fighting your watercolor! 🎨✨

Ever wonder why your painting turned muddy or why you see so much texture after your paint has dried? Or why some colors are easily lifted while others refuse to budge?

The secret isn’t just in your brushwork-it’s in the labels. 🏷️

Every tube of paint comes with a "cheat sheet" of its personality. Once you learn to read those tiny symbols, you’ll stop guessing and start painting with total confidence.

Here are the 4 properties that will change the way you paint:

1. Transparency (The "Glow" Factor) 💎

This tells you if you can see the paper through the pigment.

Transparent: Perfect for layering without losing vibrancy.

Opaque: Can look "chalky" if overused.

Pro Tip: Mixing too many opaques is the fastest way to get mud! Look for the tiny squares or circles on your tube.

2. Staining (The "Commitment" Factor) ⚓

Does the pigment sink deep into the fibers or sit on the surface?

Low Staining: Very forgiving! You can "lift" the color to fix mistakes or add highlights.

High Staining: It’s there to stay. Great for bold accents, but hard to change once it’s down.

Look for: "ST" or small triangles.

3. Granulation (The "Texture" Factor) 🏜️

Some pigments are heavier and settle into the "valleys" of your paper as they dry, creating a beautiful, pebble-like texture.

Use it for: Adding instant character to landscapes or old walls.

Look for: A "G" or "Y" on the label.

4. Lightfastness (The "Forever" Factor) ☀️

This is the paint’s resistance to fading over time.

High Lightfastness: Your art stays vibrant for decades.

Fugitive: The color might literally disappear if it spends too much time in the sun!

Look for: A star rating (usually 1–5).

Stop guessing and start checking those labels! It’ll save you so much frustration (and wasted paint). 🖌️
