Smooth, soft washes don’t come from “natural talent”…
They come from developing water + brush control, and making sure you're using the right tools for the job.
Today’s reel breaks down 3 key things to check if your washes are still drying splotchy or textured:
1️⃣ Mix enough paint - and aim for a coffee or milk consistency.
You want enough pigment and enough water so your brush stays loaded. If you run out mid-wash, your paper starts drying… and that’s where streaks and blossoms happen.
2️⃣ Use a larger brush.
If you’re painting a big area, small brushes will work against you - they run out of paint fast, forcing you to stop and reload over and over. Larger, more absorbent brushes (like mops) help you paint more in one smooth pass.
3️⃣ Paint with confidence- and avoid going back in.
Once the surface starts to dry, reworking = hard edges + backruns
Lay it down, let it be, and trust the process. ✨
