❌Ever dive straight into a new drawing or painting… only to feel lost halfway through or underwhelmed with your results?

Here’s the truth:
Skipping observation and planning makes the creative process way harder than it needs to be.

👉 SLOWING DOWN and taking just 5–10 minutes to really look at your subject and map out a strategy can completely transform both your process and your final outcome.

When you slow down to observe, you give yourself the chance to:

👉Simply observe your subject to understand its main characteristics, structure, and essential details

👉Plan your colors for better color harmony

👉Decide on your focal point

👉Choose which details to simplify or leave out

👉Visualize the style and level of detail you’re going for, and plan the techniques and tools that will help you achieve it

👉Think about how many layers (approximately) you’ll need for the level of detail you desire

👉Consider how to bring more of yourself into the piece- what mood, message, idea, or story do you want to communicate? This will help you make better choices with color and other elements of art

📍Preparation doesn’t stifle creativity. It actually frees you up to enjoy the painting process so much more and ensures better results.
