The "River Why?", really the "Pond Why?", finishes the bridge area. The pond is intended to hold water however not hold water all the time. Just when I'm taking photos or have people over.

Water features are a trick, and can create a place for bugs, mostly mosquitos to breed. And the water goes stagnant and well... are not a pleasant addition to the railroad. So the best water features can be drained and left dry most of the time. We saw this on Tim and Dana Fitch's huge outdoor railroad.

Tim has an elaborate system of filling his extensive system of streams, waterfalls, and ponds directly from his home water and then pumping the water out, THAT SAME DAY. and using it to water the lawn and garden. Our system is a lot smaller and well.... basic? The pond leaks a small amount and only holds about half a quart (liter) of water. I fill it with a pitcher and in about an hour, it's all leaked out. I may try to fix this....

But while the pond is full it looks great. and while it's empty, almost all the time, it also looks pretty darn good.
