Winter mountain hiking kills people who treat it like summer hiking with extra layers. Gear alone won't save you. Before you go, learn to self-arrest with an ice axe, understand when microspikes aren't enough and crampons are required, and know how to assess avalanche danger. Take an AIARE Level 1 course or a mountaineering skills class. Check snow conditions at the trailhead and higher elevations before you leave. If you don't have the skills or the conditions look bad, turn around. No summit is worth your life.
