Volcan Mountain is a 5.5 mile hike in the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve near Julian, California. The route follows the Volcan Mountain Trail before connecting to the Five Oaks Trail, gaining roughly 1,400 feet to reach a summit with views spanning from the Salton Sea to Catalina Island. The preserve is open year-round, and the trail offers a moderate climb through oak woodland with spring wildflowers. Parking is free at the trailhead, and no permit is required. The best season is fall through spring when temperatures are cooler and conditions are more comfortable.
