Teutonia Peak is a 3.5-mile out-and-back in Mojave National Preserve with 650 feet of gain. The trail crosses what was once the densest Joshua tree forest in the world before the 2020 Dome Fire destroyed an estimated 1.3 million trees. You pass the remains of the Teutonia Mine, an early 1900s silver operation, and hike toward Cima Dome, a massive volcanic formation. The trail is well-marked with minor switchbacks and boulder sections near the summit. Scrambling gets you to the true peak, but the overlook delivers panoramic views without technical climbing. Stop at the nearby Mojave Memorial Cross, a WWI memorial and former Supreme Court case landmark, before or after the hike.
