Tim's Ladder climbs 2,000 feet in under 3 miles through the northern Coachella Valley hills into Joshua Tree National Park backcountry. The trail passes a local-built monument before reaching a panoramic viewpoint over the Little San Bernardino Mountains. Expect a rugged, steep ascent with full sun exposure. The trailhead is outside Palm Desert, and while the route enters park backcountry, no permit is required for day hiking. Best hiked in cooler months due to desert heat and elevation gain.
