I've been playing Warriors: Abyss lately, trying to gauge how speedrunnable it is. Like any roguelite, it's pretty RNG-heavy, but a lot of the specifics depend on your character.
What to say about Cao Cao? On the plus side, his passives allow him to scale damage fairly easily in early game and give him an easy access to some powerful Wei synergies.
As a drawback, his moveset is a bit mediocre, with lacking mobility and inconsistent range. While he has the unique ability to leave and detonate clones for wide-range effect, this is generally only worth for weaker mobs and becomes completely unsafe on higher Traversals.
Since Cao Cao's moveset cannot carry a run by itself, I always try to make him a summoner. Fortunately, the Wei-faction has some particularly strong summons: Yue Jin uses Soaring Blade which is likely the most damaging summon skill. It can be cast with Zhang He as well, if you can collect all the Wei generals.
Reaching 0 cooldown is not absolutely necessary, but it helps. Matsukaze or Red Hare are critical relics in a playthrough. If those are not available, you can reach -70% cooldown naturally with Guo Jia's ability and Charm 12.
