This is different from a Top 10.
We can all generate a Top 10 with a little thought. It'd be tricky for sure and I think we'd all agree we need to caveat it heavily. It'll be based on what we're enjoying over a certain time. So when I talk about this particular shelf, it's a little different. This could be - forever. I'm talking about facing a whisky enthusiast's austerity. Let's imagine we need to pare our collection down to bare bones, but not only that - we need to be able to replace it. Find and afford. These should be whiskies that we'd always like to have on hand.
This is difficult for enthusiasts, we don't 'empty and replace' often. We celebrate our bottles and quickly move on, the choice we have today encourages such promiscuity. But let's flirt with our 2022 horizons a little - harder times ahead.
What if we need to cut our cloth a little neater? Instead of dreaming, let's be honest with ourselves, let's look at - and listen to - our shelves. Look at the bottles you have and share those you have replaced multiple times.
Especially when availability and price is woven in, it's those bottles that will betray your preferences. I'm half surprised by mine. You may be too. But I'll share them all.
